Marion McCollum
is a licensed psychologist with a doctorate in Counseling from Indiana University. She
has worked as a therapist in Greensboro for 25 years—at Presbyterian Counseling,
Greensboro Day School, and Carolina Psychological, prior to joining the Center
in 2008. Marion takes a holistic approach to counseling, drawing from principles
of positive psychology, cognitive-behavioral
therapy,
family therapy, and mindfulness. As a therapist she offers clients a caring
relationship in which to grow and, as an educator, she provides
practical knowledge and tools to use for coping and healing.
Marion works with individuals across the life span—preschoolers,
children, teens, adults, and elders. She helps people cope with grief/loss,
relationships, codependency, parenting, school and behavior problems, anger,
abuse, divorce, depression, anxiety, and aging. She does assessments for adult
ADHD and teaches mindfulness strategies for the management of chronic pain and
illness.
Marion encourages clients to explore the spiritual dimension
of their current struggle, to ask, “What is my life purpose at this time,
and how can my pain push me to grow toward that higher purpose?” She
finds the Enneagram a useful personality tool to identify where change needs
to occur. Marion loves to lead groups and retreats; she has an ongoing
group, Soul Work for the Second Half of Life. She also teaches wellness
classes in area churches, retirement communities, and continuing education programs.
